Reporting to the Director of Development, the Assistant Director of Individual Giving identifies, cultivates and solicits alumni and friends of the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) through face-to-face meetings and through high-profile fundraising events.
The Assistant Director will carry a portfolio of 300 leadership annual fund donors and will be in charge of their identification, qualification, engagement, and solicitation for gifts to the SIPA Fund. They will be expected to do 125 visits per year and make a minimum of 200 solicitations.
In addition to their portfolio work, the Assistant Director is the lead staff person for the successful planning and execution of SIPA's annual Global Leadership Awards Gala, the School's largest fundraising event, and plays a key role in achieving the Gala's goals to bring visibility to the School and raise significant annual support. The Assistant Director coordinates collaboration with internal units such as communications and external relations, alumni affairs, event planning, and finance. She/he also coordinates collaboration with external partners, including event honorees, donors, volunteers and vendors.
Along with the Associate Dean and Director of Development, the Assistant Director coordinates the engagement of key volunteer groups, including the SIPA Alumni Association Executive Board, the SIPA Advisory Board, Campaign Advisory Council, and related task forces, and she/he maintains regular contact with Board members, donors and prospective donors.
Bachelor's degree required. A minimum of 3 years of fundraising or related development experience is required. Computer proficiency (Word, Excel) required. Some evening events and travel required as needed.
Must have a demonstrated success managing high-level donor relationships and events. The capacity to clearly comprehend and communicate SIPA's mission and ongoing initiatives is required.
Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including: project management, fundraising event planning, teamwork and client/customer awareness. Ability to work with changing priorities and multiple projects. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, with attention to detail. Must be able to problem-solve and troubleshoot, in addition to the ability to work independently in a dynamic team environment. Demonstrated ability to effectively partner with a diverse group of administrators and academic leaders.
